Chino Valley Unified School District Override
It is a common story playing out in almost every school district in the nation during this economic downturn. Schools of every type have had to reduce or eliminate programs, teachers, and support service staff. Chino Valley Unified School District has been significantly impacted by the cuts in the State budget and further reductions projected as high as 25% may be forthcoming. Over the last two years, the District has faced nearly $2 million dollars in reduced funding. It has been said, “We don’t face a spending problem. We have a revenue
problem.” Recently, at a Board Hearing to consider a budget override, we were told by an economist from Yavapai College, “No one will be there to help you, not the State nor the federal government. You must help yourselves.” An override is just that kind of help - community members helping community members.
Chino Valley Unified School District boldly met the challenges over the last three years and took aggressive steps to absorb the cuts without a significant reduction in service. The District cut staff, eliminated waste, reduced utility costs, postponed major projects, and instituted a four-day school week. However, during this time of economic crisis the District also took innovative steps to meet the learning needs of students and the community by launching the online Arizona iAcademy© and the CASA after school program. Both have met with great success.
In addition, the Administration successfully pursued grant funding for maintenance of facilities and federal programs. All led to increased revenue for the District. However, over the last three years all of the “low hanging fruit” has been picked in both budgetary reductions and grant applications. With more budget cuts anticipated, the District is faced with no choice but a dramatic reduction in service to the students of our community. These cuts will result in substantially larger class sizes, possible elimination of music, art, interscholastic activities, and other programs of great value to the students of our community.
One of the smartest investments you can make is to invest in our kids today. Arizona’s tomorrow depends on the quality of education our students receive. Chino Valley Unified School District takes great pride in the gains that have been made in student achievement over the last three years. We owe our thanks to our dedicated staff who works unbelievably hard for our children, and we also give credit to you…our community. It takes a team effort to provide superior educational services. We are deeply grateful for your effort in supporting the common mission of providing high-quality education for the children of Chino Valley Unified School District. In these difficult times, we are asking for your support in sustaining the gains that have been made in student achievement. Our children’s future depends on it.

About Us!
The Chino Valley Unified School District # 51 presently operates four school facilities in the Town of Chino Valley. Del Rio Elementary (constructed in 1982) and Territorial Elementary (constructed in 1999) house the District's 1000 Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students, equally divided between schools. Both schools house fully equipped and Internet accessible computer labs, full gymnasiums, plus breakfast and lunch programs.
Heritage Middle School embraces the middle school concept of learning appropriate for Sixth through Eigth graders. Its award winning band and choral programs enroll over half of the school's students. Two County Teachers of the Year and Two Channel 3 Silver Apple Teacher Award winners are on the HMS Faculty.
Located in the center of Chino Valley, the high school offers a comprehensive academic, career and technical education, arts, and extracurricular program. We pride ourselves in our ability to challenge the most able students as well as providing opportunities for success for the less able. Our academic program includes Honors Programs in Math, English, Social Studies and Spanish. Our vocational programs in Agriculture, Business, and Culinary Arts have received national recognition. Our music and art programs have received many state awards. Our partnership with Yavapai College has provided many students with additional academic and career and technical education opportunities. Our commitment to technology use has created five computer lab environments for students. Our Bridges Program, a web-based after school and
evening credit recapture program, has enabled us to have one of the highest graduation rates of any district school in Yavapai County. Our dropout rate is the second lowest in Yavapai County. Our parents have web-based access to student attendance, grades, and teacher email.
The District operates under the supervision of a five member Governing Board and one District Superintendent. The District presently employs 312 administrative, certified and support staff.
Our schools have won many awards including National Blue Ribbon, the State Champion on the Presidential Physical Fitness program, and we are designated a State Fine Arts Site.
Tax Credit
Giving a Tax Credit to your school of choice reduces your tax burden to the state of Arizona, dollar for dollar. It also reduces your taxable income to the federal government, usually by 1/3 of your donation.
This is a win-win for you and your school! A sincere thank you goes out to all of you who supported our students in 2009. In 2010 using a tax credit is a great way to choose how you support Drama, Athletics, Music, Art, Field Trips, Special Needs, Future Farmers of America or any number of clubs and groups at Chino Valley Schools.
Making Your Donation: Download and complete the 2010 Tax Credit Form.pdf and send it along with your check. CVUSD will send you a receipt for your tax records. Or you can come by any school office and pickup a donation form.
